NYSC Reassures Commitment to Corps Members Welfare

The National Youth Service Corps has reassured that the welfare of Corps Members remain its topmost priority. The Director-General, Brigadier General Sulaiman Kazaure, stated this today at the opening ceremony of 2017 edition of NYSC Corps Members' Workshop held at NYSC Orientation Camp, Kubwa, Abuja.
NYSC Reassures Commitment to Corps Members Welfare
He noted that the revival of Corps Members' Forum which was last held in 2013, is in line with his administration's determination to run an all inclusive administration where both staff and Corps members can contribute to the general administration of the Scheme.

Kazaure therefore charged the Corps Members to utilise the opportunity of the workshop and share experiences on the service year and also suggest ways of improving on effective Corps administration especially in the attendant problems coupled with the increase in Corps population.

He said the increment in Corps population has led to over-stretching of camp facilities, Corps rejection, under-utilization and inadequate Corps Lodges as well as post-service unemployment. The DG further brought to the fore, the achievements of his administration which include; expanding the Scheme's collaboration with stakeholders like State Governments and financial institutions in the areas of Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development.

He stated the Scheme's alliance with security agencies and other agencies of government in ensuring the welfare and security of Corps Members. Kazaure, who was represented at the ceremony by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Mrs Bose Okakwu, also said the Scheme has recorded tremendous success in the newly introduced online biometric registration and clearance process as well as effective usage of social media platforms for free flow of information between the Scheme, Corps Members and other members of the public.

Earlier in her introductory address, the Acting Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mrs. Josephine Okonghae, thanked God for journey mercies on all Corps participants who were selected from the 37 State Secretariats across the country including the FCT.

She explained that the objectives of the forum was to bridge the communication gap between Corps Members and Management, awaken interest in Community Development Service, provide opportunity for feedback and grievance redress as well as create an avenue for peer interaction and review.

The programme which had as its theme; "Repositioning Corps Members as instruments for Accelerated Nation building", was attended by NYSC Directors including a retired Director of Corps Welfare and Inspectorate, Mr Solomon Ochim among others.
