Interestingly, iCloud automatically backs up your text messages once you have set up iCloud backups on your iPhone.
It is important to bear in mind that restoring from backup requires deleting your content and settings.
To recover or restore your iCloud backup and get your texts back you’ll need to follow the below instructions:
1. First off, you’ll need to locate and tap on the “Settings” icon on your iPhone device
2. Next, you’ll need to tap your Apple ID.
3. Find on that page and you should see “iCloud.” Tap on it
4. On the next page that appears, tap “Manage Storage.”
5. Tap “Backup” to see if your iPhone has any backups stored. If none are stored then you will not be able to use this method for getting your texts.
6. Tap the “Back” button on the top left corner of your iPhone’s screen three times to go back to the main menu.
7. Tap “General” and then tap “Reset” followed by “Erase all content and settings.”
8. Wait for your iPhone’s reset to complete. Resetting the iPhone is necessary to restore your iOS backup.
9. Follow the on-screen options to set up your iPhone and then tap “Restore from iCloud Backup” when this option is available on-screen. Sign in to your iCloud account and then tap your most recent backup to restore it on your iPhone.
10. Wait for the iPhone restore to complete and then you will be able to retrieve your old texts.
If you’re not ready to get rid of your iPhone’s data, you will need to follow the below guide:
1. Visit iCloud.com
2. On the iCloud homepage, you’ll need to log onto your iCloud account if you’ve not already done that.
3. Next, find and you should see text messages link and tap on it. If however, you’ve not seen the text messages link on your device, you’ll need to restore your iCloud backup instead.
Interestingly, you can view all your text messages that have been backed up by iCloud. This includes messages that may have been deleted on your iPhone.
4. Now, you’ll need to tap on the “Settings” button
5. After that, locate and tap on the “iCloud” button
6. Tap the “Off” button next to “Text Messages” and then tap “Keep on My iPhone.”
5. Tap to turn the “Text Messages” option back on followed by “Merge” to sync all your messages on the iPhone again.
